Turkish giants Galatasaray have signed a $40 million (roughly £21 million), five-year sponsorship deal with communications company Türk Telekom.

According to reports from Turkey, the multi-million dollar deal was signed on Tuesday, and will come into force at the start of the 2009-2010 Turkish Super League season.

Perhaps the most important facet of the deal is the one that will see the Istabul side’s new stadium emblazoned with the company’s name as the Türk Telekom Stadium.

The new ground, to be completed in early 2010, was going to be named ‘Aslantepe’ or ‘Lion Hill’ in a nod towards the Turkish champions’ famous affiliation with the imagery of the lion, but these plans have changed as a result of the new deal.

The Türk Telekom logo will also adorn Galatasaray’s shirts beginning in the 09/10 campaign, replacing the mobile phone company AVEA as the principal sponsors, which runs out after this season

Türk Telekom has been working to provide “modern communication opportunities” to the international market for nearly 165 years.
