France Red Euro 2008 away shirt

Although the French team’s national away kit has not yet been launched, photos have leaked out showing a red shirt, thought to be the new colour that France will be using for away games. It has come as a surprise to most French supporters and football fans. They were used to kits incorporating the tri-colour (red, white and blue) with the primary background colours being blue for the home, and white for the away.

An all-red kit with no signs of the red and white, except as stripes on the sleeves, is not typical of the French national team. However, this change will not affect the style of play of the team, it won’t affect the team, and neither will it stop the Frenchmen from supporting their national team and buying the shirts for the Euro 2008 campaign. It is very normal to have diverse reactions when the football kits are launched. Not all fans can be pleased, but that is the beauty of diversity. Disagreement between fans is not limited to the colour of football shirts…football arguments range from team selection, starting line-up, formation, style of play, timing of substitutions, condition of players, and millions of other arguments. That is the beauty of the game of football. Football lovers never run out of things to say and discuss, all from their personal point of view. I would go as far as saying that the shirt is the factor that affects the least the performances.

The challenge is to always support the team. Whatever colour is chosen for the kit, even if it breaks tradition, it is essential for all true fans to back their team. If the France national team returns from Austria/Switzerland with the Euro 2008 title, not a single Frenchman would bother about the colour in which the team played in. And with the quality of players that France has in its team, it would not come as a surprise if the World Cup finalists earn this coveted award for their efforts and beautiful football.
