Farnborough sign deal with Canterbury
Farnborough FC, which currently play in Southern League Division 1 South&West, have today announced that they have agreed a deal with New Zealand Canterbury Ltd for shirt manufacturing. This up and coming football kit manufacturer, which was initially a rugby-only shirt designer, also supply Premier League club Portsmouth and La Liga club Deportivo La Coruna with kits.

It is a four-year deal that will see the New Zealand-based manufacturer design playing kits, training kits, replica shirts and leisurewear. The comments of Canterbury Marketing Manager Mostyn Thomas were:
“We are thrilled that a club with the vision of Farnborough and such close involvement in the community with Grass roots, are to be one of the first teams to benefit from our new football teamwear business. As a brand, whilst partnering elite athletes around the world is what we are often recognised for, working at grass roots level of all sports is an integral part of our business.”

Farnborough’s comments about the deal were:
“We have been seeking a partner for our team wear supply and have met with all of the major brands, after careful consideration we are sure that Canterbury meets all of our requirements. The quality of their products is exceptional and each year we will work with Canterbury to design a bespoke range for the club.”
This deal has made easier the clubs proposed Kitz4kidz scheme, where the club will give away 2000 club kits yearly over a four-year period to the kids in town. The cost of this scheme is estimated to amount to £240,000.

As a pompey fan i feared this would happen…I don’t wanna see other clubs wearing almost duplicate versions of our kits…I liked the fact that whilst so many clubs in the premiership had the same umbro shirts, ours were so different. I know this is only a non-league club but I fear others will follow suit!
i wouldn’t be too worried pete, as the chairman said they will be working with canterbury to design a ‘bespoke’ range. this means their kit should differ from pompey’s.
Fear not, as this deal is not direct with Canterbury. It is through a retailer in nearby Guildford and Canterbury are using it as a PR stunt to try and break into the teamwear market
