European Shirts Cup: Knockout Fixtures

Posted on January 6th, 2010 in European Shirts Cup by reddevilrooney

The fixtures for the knockout stage of our European Shirts Cup has been drawn. We have tried to mirror the actual UEFA Champions League draw as much as possible. However, we could only do this for three matches: the Milan vs Man Utd, Porto vs Arsenal, and Stuttgart vs Barcelona encounters. This happened due to differences in the qualifying teams for the knockout stage. There were some teams which qualified in our European Shirts Cup group stage but did not make it in the actual UEFA competition, and vice versa.

However, the teams paired have been picked up from the same groups as the actual football competition. These ties will take place in the same weeks when the Champions League is played. The respective weeks when the matches will be played can be seen below.

Set 1: First Leg week (15 Feb – 22 Feb) & Second Leg week (8 March – 15 March)

Olympique Lyon vs Bayern Munich

AC Milan vs Manchester United

Porto vs Arsenal

Liverpool vs Marseille

Set 2: First Leg week (22 Feb – 1 March) & Second Leg week (15 March – 22 March)

Stuttgart vs Barcelona

Olympiacos vs Juventus

Inter vs Atletico Madrid

Wolfsburg vs Glasgow Rangers

Games will take place on a home and away basis, and the first leg will be played as seen above (first team being home, while second team being away). If Team A wins the first leg, and Team B wins the second leg in the knockout stage, the amount of votes will count, and in the remote case that this is identical, the amount of votes received in the group stage would decide the winner. Unlike the group stage, the team which obtains 50%+1 votes wins the match.

We look forward to continuing this competition, and thank you in advance for participating.

Milan v Man United both red & black united will b wearing blue or white against them so i think the black shirt should be excluded

    @Sipod:
When putting teams against each other in the polls, we try to mirror what they will actually wear, so we will certainly keep the colour clashes in mind. The home team will always wear the home shirt, while the away shirt may be changed to the third shirt. Probably it will be:

Milan (Home Shirt red and black) vs Man Utd (Third Shirt which is white)

Man Utd (Home Shirt red) vs Milan (Away Shirt white)

Munich, Milan, Porto, Marseille,Barcelona, Juventus, Inter, Wolfsburg for me! The Athletico/Inter is very hard, but the Classy horizontal stripes on Inter’s away kit just edges it!
