Darren Bent in a Spurs Shirt
Tottenham Hot Spur have broken the club transfer record to bring Darren Bent to White Hart Lane, the £16.5 million fee surpasses the club’s previous maximum of £11 million paid for Ukrainian striker Sergei Rebrov.

Bent joins from Charlton Athletic who were relegated from the Premier League this season, the addicks will receive their payment in installments, 23 year old Darren signed for spurs with a six year contract.
Bent made 77 appearances for Charlton, scoring 37 goals in all competitions during two years at the Valley. Darren started his career as a trainee with Ipswich Town, with whom he made 141 appearances and scored 55 goals.

Against Uruguay in March 2006, Bent made his first appearance for the England first team, but has since only gained one more cap, against Greece. Bent hopes the move to Spur can help boost his international prospects.
After his signing was announced Bent said of the deal:
“Tottenham have a lot of young English players and it’s a young squad, it’s a squad going forward and that’s the direction I wanted to take. They seem to be getting better and better every season and I would love to be part of that.”
“It helps a lot that I know a few of the lads from England internationals and I’m sure they will help me settle in. It’s exciting times for me and the club, hopefully I’ll show what I can do at Tottenham and we’ll go on to win things.”

The only reason Tel went for that cheap is coz he’s got recurring injuries, hence his bit part in arsenal’s season (neck injury, my arse!!) Barca got a great deal coz arsenal refused to haggle, they just wanted him out the door, and cash in the bank! if they’d sold him a year earlier he’d av gone for £30-40m (whoever’s in charge at the Emirates deserves a medal from Spurs fans coz they’re draggin you down the drains like Sheffield Wednesday’s directors box!!!) im a spurs lad through and through n arsenal have been goin down hill 4 a long time wit out henry they have a dull side with no flare or speed.,wenger will leave next summer n fabergas will follow .,,spurs have been closing the gap on the top 4 for the last 3 years and this year is the year we break into the top 4 of the leauge.,.,with players like berbatov,keane,lenonn,king,dawson,robinson,bale and now bent we ll be a force to be rockend with. i agree that spurs payed too much for bent but he is still a very good player with a point to prove to the england coach steve mclaren
