Cliftonville 2009 Cup Final Shirt

Cliftonville are an Irish club playing in the IFA Premiership, which is the top division in Northern Ireland. They ranked 3rd in the division in 2007/08 and find themselves in the 5th place in the 2008/09 season (as at 30 May 2009). However, they have reached the Irish Cup Final. This achievement coincides with the club’s 30th anniversary of their last triumph in this competition.

Hence, as is appropriate, the club has honoured this event by issuing a special shirt in the hope that history will repeat itself and the club will take the cup home in 2009 as well. The slogan to market this shirt is ‘Because sometimes you have to go backwards to go forward’. The shirt is very similar to that used in the 1978/79 Cup Final and is manufactured by Puma, but designed and supplied by The Kit Team. The shirt sponsors are Allan’s Pharmacy. The base colour used was yellow with blue on the bottom-sides. The Puma logo is placed on both shoulders and on the chest. The special edition shirt, to be used in the Final match against Crusaders, is complemented by blue shorts with yellow details, and yellow shorts with blue details.

    Quite a rarity that a team in this day and age is bringing a commemorative shirt out for a cup final. It’s not a bad shirt either. All the best to them.
