Champion to make Wigan’s next shirt
The word is that Champion Sports are going to be making the Wigan Athletic shirts for next season. They have been made by Umbro recently with the JJB logo in the centre of the kit as sponsors. Wigan owner Dave Whelan also owns JJB Sport and in November last year JJB signed a deal with Champion to exclusively sell their brand in the UK in their stores.

The deal came in to affect on January 1st 2008, it seems that part of that deal was for Champion to replace Umbro as Wigan Athletic’s team shirt manufacturers. This isn’t the first time Champion have made football shirts, they produced Parma’s shirts back in the 2003/04 season (see shirt on the right).
At the time Chris Ronnie Chief Executive at JJB said:
“JJB is continually looking for brands that can bring real value to our consumers, and in Champion we feel that we have found exactly such a brand. Champion represents all of the true values of real sports and utmost quality, which is quite unique today, and we are really looking forward to working together with them.”
WHY?!?!?!? THAT IS PURE BOLLOX! Umbro is good enough, it was bad enough having JJB as maker and sponsor but now back to terrible sponsorship. WISE UP!
Champion made excellent NBA vests for a number of years.
It will give Wigan the chance to have a unique shirt as opposed to the same standard Umbro format

good point Andrew, Whelan doesn’t own JJB anymore and Wigan have appointed Sportfive to find them a new sponsor, I should have remembered that.
however, on a more certain note word is that Blackburn have agreed a deal with crown paints to be there next shirt sponsors.

champion are a really good make unlike umbro
they are like belly buttons everyones got them but champion its nice to see a different design instead of just about half of the premierships manufacturers by umbro in the spl umbro have 2 **** deals rangers and hearts nike have 2 celtic and aberdeen the premiership need to find better shirt manufacturers when they can because i just cant stand umbro now 
not really about the shirt, but i’m loving JJB sports new logo. very modern.
This isn’t true because were signed up to umbro till 2010 and Whelan Doesn’t own JJB Anymore
This story is rubbish. Wigan signed a two year deal with Umbro last summer, but they are getting a new kit next season as the deal with JJB runs out at the end of this season.
