BMO sponsored Toronto FC shirt released
Major League Soccer’s Toronto FC unveiled their new home jersey on Friday complete with jersey sponsor Bank of Montreal’s (BMO) logo. Toronto FC became a Major League Soccer franchise in 2006 and were the first team to be involved from outside the United States.
The shirt was modelled by Maurice Edu (no relation to Freddy) who Toronto selected with the first pick of the MLS Superdraft. The red shirt is made by Adidas and features a white and grey trim. The Adidas logo is just below the collar in the centre of the shirt and the Toronto FC logo is over the left chest. The away shirt was also announced which is grey with a red trim.
Tom Anselmi, Executive Vice-President and COO of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment who own Toronto FC said:
“Having a prominent jersey sponsor is unique to soccer teams around the world and keeps with the tradition of the sport….We’re excited to extend our relationship with BMO Financial Group and to support them in exposing their services to a wider audience in Canada and beyond. BMO is a great Canadian brand and a strong supporter of sport and soccer.”
Frank Techar from BMO said:
“Soccer represents a great opportunity for us to deepen our relationships with customers and communities in Toronto and indeed right across Canada…We are thrilled that as an integral part of the jersey design, the BMO brand is prominently displayed so that our enthusiastic and ongoing support for the world’s most popular sport will be plainly in sight at every game at BMO Field and Major League Soccer stadiums right across North America.”
The sponsorship deal extends further than just the companies logo on the team’s jersey, in the deal Toronto have agreed with BMO to naming rights to their stadium, which will be known as BMO Field and investment in grass roots soccer.
