Blackburn Rovers Supporters Site: brfcs.com

Back in 1994/95 there was one Blackburn Rovers website out there, and that was the one created by Rob Ivison. In fact there weren’t too many sports websites at all, Daily Telegraph, Soccernet (before ESPN got involved), ArseWeb and a couple of others.
Rob worked in Edinburgh but left Britain for a job in Hawaii and with it his site closed down. In 1996 Lee Grooby took over keeping Blackburn fans informed on the internet with his own new Blackburn site: brfcsupporters.org.uk which became brfcs.com as it is known today.
Lee’s first story on the site was “Speedie’s gonna ref you!” a story about how David Speedie had plans to become a referee. Not that that happened…. In October 2001 Grooby accepted a dream job of working for his favourite club on their official website and left brfcs.com in the hands of the users.
The site nowadays has bloomed into a regularly used forum and information point for all things Blackburn Rovers. It includes a well detailed History Section and the story of Blackburn’s favourite son, Jack Walker in sections created through online fan collaboration. The history section has a look at Blackburn Rovers history from 1868 onwards, their local rivals, previous home grounds, past managers and famous players.
There is a greatest ever Blackburn Rovers team as voted for by the users of the messageboard, which is:
1. Brad Friedel
2. Bob Crompton
3. Graeme Le Saux
4. Mike England
5. Colin Hendry
6. Ronnie Clayton
7. Bryan Douglas
8. Jimmy Forrest
9. Alan Shearer
10. Simon Garner
11. Damien Duff

good to see the pioneering days remembered. the old site began with something like “come on Jack! – call yourself a philanthropist? – give me some money and i’ll create you a better site!”
i picked a great successor – the mighty lee grooby – he did well, even made some money i think, but then the dot com bubble burst…
