Beckham Replica Shirts Top US Shirt Sales
LA Galaxy may have said that he was not bought in order to boost shirt sales but David Beckham’s replica shirts have been hitting an all-time high in the United States. Beckham who recently scored a goal from his own half has had over 300,000 of his shirts sold in the past year, which is three or four times the number of the biggest basketball or baseball stars in the United States.
Scoring from his own-half…into an empty net against Kansas City Wizards
Don Garber, the commissioner of the Major League Soccer issued the statement in his attempt to argue the success of David Beckham’s move to LA Galaxy from Real Madrid. Although his move was a bid to try and improve the view of the MLS from the European’s view, this still has not been achieved and there has been somewhat of rejection from players to follow him in the US.
The fact that American Football (or soccer as it is known there) has still not yet achieved that status like the Italian Serie A or the English Premiership does not mean that the soccer league has not grown during its history. Garber continued: “Selling 300,000 Beckham jerseys, more than any other American sports jersey sold anywhere in the world — that is according to adidas, the No 1 shirt seller in the world,” he said. “It is more than Kobe Bryant, LeBron James [star players in the National Basketball]. Around 75,000 to 80,000 sales is good for a leading player.
“Many things have surprised me about David’s move. In a country which is known for its celebs, he’s recognised more even than I expected. I didn’t expect an athlete to be able to transcend [barriers] like some of the music and movie stars we have.”
Beckham’s deal with L.A. Galaxy gives him cash with every merchandise numbered 23 that goes off the shop’s shelves. This story was first reported by the Times Newspaper.

If he wasn’t bought for the shirt sales why did they change their kit from a unique amber with a dark green sash to a generic all white Unreal Madrid style when he joined?
…because all Yank business men are liars. Yes they bought him because they knew the sale of his kits would pay his salary alone But the MLS needs those big names to help the league I wish the front office wouldn’t lie about it.
