Bayern Munich 08/09 Kits

Posted on June 23rd, 2008 in Bayern Munich by Danny Hall

FC Bayern Munich have revealed their shirts for the new campaign. Made by adidas and sponsored by T-Mobile (with T-Home on the front of the shirts), the shirt also features three stars above the Bayern Munich badge - rather than represent the amount of times the club has won a trophy, as is the case on the England shirts, the stars are instead a reward granted to the club by the German Football Association (DFB) for domestic success, based on the number of league titles won.

One star was granted to teams with three or more league titles, two stars given to teams with five or more and three stars to teams with ten or more.

The club’s away kit, pictured above, is black with white adidas branding. The German Champions have also released a shirt that is thought to be the club’s European kit.

Almost identical in design to the new away shirt, the detail is in red (the club’s colours) and the three adidas stripes on the arm run all the way to the bottom of the sleeve. The club’s four European Cup successes (in 1974, 1975, 1976 and 2001) are commemorated by the official Uefa sleeve patch on the left arm.

It’s about time FIFA standardised these stars isn’t it? Manchester City have three, for league wins in a row presumably, Slavia Prague have one big one… (little Czech football joke there… Sigh.)

As a Southampton FC fan I’d like to see gold for league titles and domestic cups and silver for Hampshire Senior Cup wins and a ban on all others.

Augustus, you are wrong about what Man City’s stars signify. According to the club’s own website: “The stars have no significance and are purely decorative.”

You’ve got to laugh, haven’t you! The only thing City have won exactly three times is the Charity Shield, having won the league twice and the FA Cup four times.

  7. someone said,

these are fake! Bayern munich will hve 4 stars now not three as they have won 21 league titles

  8. brett said,

the stars are for winning the european cup, so im assuming bayern have won it 3 times

in england the clubs are only allowed to have a star on their european kits and not their prem kits

i know this because im a villa fan and we arent allowed a star on our kit (thats why we redesigned the badge last season)

  10. someone said,

    From the Bundesliga website.

FC Bayern first club with four stars. FC Bayern have been accorded with a special honour for winning the 20th German title since the foundation of the Bundesliga in 1963. .. one star for three titles, two stars for five titles, three stars for ten titles and four stars for at least 20 championships.

  18. oldermigroin said,

fc bayern are not the first team to have four stars, glasgow rangers are the first team to have four stars and they now have five which they have had for a couple of years.

  19. Tim said,

Since when have Rangers played in the Bundesliga, oldermigroin you muppet?

  20. giacomo said,

I certainly hope theyre fake… They’re ugly and I hate them. Bayern keep repeating themselves every year, like Celtic. But at least Celtic’s shirts are good… Bayerns are always horrible.

  21. Rudi said,

nothing will beat last seasons 3rd kit… it was just so sublime… amazing blood red on black…. want something like that… white on black is bland :(

  22. Mr. X said,

The white one is fake, no adidas shirts for 08/09 have the stripes going all the way down to the end of the sleeves from what i know
