Arsenal to renegotiate shirt sponsorship deal with Emirates

Posted on December 22nd, 2009 in Arsenal by reddevilrooney

It was reported in the Daily Mirror that Arsenal are set to renegotiate their current shirt sponsorship agreement with Emirates. The airline, which also owns the naming rights to the Arsenal home stadium, pays the Gunners £5 million annually. Considering they are one of the biggest four teams in England, this sum does not compare well to the amounts received by the other three big clubs.

Manchester United and Liverpool have both negotiated £20 million per annum sponsorship deals with AON and Standard Chartered respectively, while Chelsea receive £12 million annually from Samsung. The current deal of the Gunners with Emirates lands them £5 million per annum and has 6 years left. Due to a decrease in profits, they are set to open negotiations with Emirates to revise the agreed amount, and part of the money would go into Arsene Wenger’s transfer budget to strengthen the team in the transfer market. The Gunners have been linked with Marouane Chamakh (striker of Bordeaux), Mario Balotelli (striker of Inter Milan), Bojan Krkic (striker of Barcelona) and Edin Dzeko (striker of Wolfsburg).

It will probally be of no use to the club as Wenger will never spend the money anyway!!

Considering the massive sum Emirates plunked down to sponsor the new staduim, I assumed the shirt deal was just a throw in.
