Nicolas Anelka joined Chelsea on Friday and was on the pitch by Saturday afternoon at Stamford Bridge, wearing his new club’s shirt. Anelka will wear the number 39 at Chelsea the same as he had at his previous club Bolton, who he arrived from for £15 million on a three & half year deal.

On his debut Nicolas came on in the 58th minute and had two decent opportunities to score, the first was saved well by Cerny and the second hit the cross bar. Anelka was keen to play in the Champions League and is still eligible for this season’s competition with Chelsea, who face Olympiakos in the last sixteen.
