Club Deportivo Chivas USA is a professional football club based in California, which participates in the Major League Soccer. The team is owned by the same owner as Mexican club Club Deportivo Guadalajara, the Mexican entrepreneur (and film producer) Jorge Vergara Madrigal. These two teams share the same traditional colours, that is, gold, blue, red and white. Shirts for Chivas USA are manufactured by Adidas, and are sponsored by Mexican paint company Comex. These are the home and away kits that Chivas will be using for the 2008 MLS season.

Chivas USA home and away shirts

The only difference between the home kit and away kit, as can be observed from the picture, is the sleeve. Apart from the sleeves, the central part of the shirt is common to both home and away, that is, alternating white and red stripes. The Adidas logo is black and appears just below the black collar. The Chivas badge appears on the left side, while the sponsors’ logo appears in black in the centre. On the home kit, the sleeves are red. The typical adidas three stripes on the sleeves are white.

The central part of the away kit is identical to the home kit. This applies to the adidas logo, collar, stripes, Comex logo and Chivas badge. The difference from the home shirt is that the sleeves of the away shirt are white, while the adidas 3 stripes on the sleeves are black. One has to wait and see whether fans will have a difficulty with regards to distinguishing players during matches, when Chivas play other teams whose home/away kit has a red dominance. This may necessitate the other team to resort to its non-red kit when it plays Chivas USA.

Both kits are red and white stripes. They’re pratically the same! How stupid is that?!!

If Chivas USA hasn’t produced a third shirt then MLS should force them to make a new away shirt that is significantly different in appearance to the home shirt. They could’ve picked gold, navy or black.

chivas have done this every year since they joined and mls do nothing about it.

just wait for a blue kit to appear against dallas.

    P.S.
the stripes are reversed on the away jersey, look closely!

    A. Chivas did, in fact, break out navy blue shirts with white shorts in the season opener against Dallas.
    B. If you take the entire kits into consideration, the similarities between the home and away kit don’t matter much. The red home shirt is worn with blue shorts/socks, while the white away shirt is worn with white shorts/socks. So, when playing clubs like Dallas, RBNY, Chicago, or Toronto… it works out nicely.
