125th Anniversary Burnley Shirt
A special commemorative shirt has been produced by kit makes Errea for Burnley to celebrate the club’s 125th Anniversary. The annoucement was made on 18th May, 125 years to the day that the club was formed in 1882.
It is a light blue and white shirt which has a white v-neck collar and a pale blue trim. The Burnley crest is in a shield on the left breast which is a throw back to the Burnely club badge one hundred and twenty five years ago.
Burnley’s Anniversary Home Shirt
The anniversary shirt will be worn for one home fixture in the 2007/08 Championship season, the colours of which are based on those first worn by the Lancashire club.
The full kit will be the anniversary shirt worn worn black shorts and white socks. The club’s principal colours from 1882 to 1890 were light blue and white stripes, something that is thought to come from the club’s fore-runner Burnley Rover Rugby Club.
Burnley’s Shirt Colours History
The club wore the blue & white striped shirts for the last time in 1891, when they changed to all blue, this was not popular though and they changed again to claret & amber stripes for the 1891/92 season. More changes followed over subsequent seasons including red, pink and white stripes, even green shirts. It was in 1910 that Burnley settled on the shirts that they wear till this day of claret and blue.
