Norwegian international John Alieu Carew was born September 5th 1979 to a father from Gambia and mother from Norway. John currently plays for Aston Villa football club in the English Premier League.
Carew started his career at Valerenga IF in Norway and won the Norwegian cup with them in 1997, he transfered to Rosenborg BK in 1999 and won the Norwegian Premier League in that year with them, enusring qualification for the UEFA Champions League. Impressive performances for Rosenborg in Europe's premier competition saw John Carew secure a transfer to Valencia of Spain. In Spain Carew won La Liga and appeared in Valencia's Champions Legaue final defeat to Bayern Munich at the San Siro in 2001.
John Carew was struggling for first team appearances by 2003 and went to AS Roma of Italy on loan, before being transfered to Besiktas of Turkey in 2004. In 2005 the Norwegian striker moved again to French champions Olympique Lyonnais and in 2006 Carew won League 1 with the Lyon.
In the January 2007 transfer window Czech striker Milan Baros moved to Lyon and in exchange Carew went the other way to Villa Park to wear the blue and claret shirt of the Villa.
