The Arizona Cardinals are the oldest American football team in the United States, they started in 1898 as Chicago's Morgan Athletic Club, picking up the name Cardinals when they started to wear dark red uniforms. They were charter member's of the NFL in 1920 as the Chicago Cardinals, the franchise moved to St Louis in 1960, before they moved again to be the Phoenix Cardinals in 1988 and then switched names to the current Arizona Cardinals in 1994.
They play in the Western NFC Divison of the National Football League. When the football league was divided prior to the 1953 season, into Eastern and Western conferences, the Cardinals were placed in the East. They were in the NFC East after the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, but the Cardinals were finally moved to the NFC West in the 2002 realignment.
Arizona's game day uniform is white helmets with red shirts, white pants and red socks. The road uniform features white shirts with red sleeves. The alternate has red pants. The Cardinal's white helmet has since 1960 had a cardinal head logo on it.
