Fabio Cannavaro is an Italian player and formed part of the World Cup winning squad in 2006. currently he is the captain of the Italian National Football team and he plays at club level for Real Madrid. Cannavaro was born on 13th September 1973 in Naples, Italy.
Cannavaro has earned many professional awards including the most notably, FIFA World PLayer of the Year and European Footballer of the Year. He was also included in the FIFPro World XI squad twice.
Cannavaro started his career by playing for his hometown, that is, Napoli. He later joined Parma where he achieved more fame for his skills and competences and these were emphasized by winning the Coppa Italia with Parma. Cannavaro then joined Inter.
Unfortunately, his second season with the Nerazzuri was marred by injury and therefore led to his departure to arch-rivals Juventus. With Juventus, Cannavaro won two Serie A titles, which where however stripped off from Juve and the fact that they were demoted to second division football to Serie B led to Cannavaro.s departure. He rejoined coach Fabio Capello at Real Madrid.
Regarding his international career, he first started to play for Italy in the 1998 Fifa World Cup. Italy went out at the Quarter-final stage and were eliminated by hosts and winners France. Unfortunately for Cannavaro and Italy, in the Euro 2000, Italy reached the Final but were beaten by France again, this time to an extra-time golden goal. In the 2002 World Cup edition, Cannavaro was credited with holding the defence together, however he was not able to save Italy from refereeing controversies and a golden goal from South Korea that left him hungry for international success once more.
His international chapter in Euro 2004 was not succesful as he had been suspended for Italy.s last group fixture and Italy did not make it to further stages due to goal difference. Cannavaro.s most succesful participation for Italy is definitely that of the 2006 World Cup where he captained Italy and led them to winning the World.s most desired trophy. Cannavaro did not receive not even a single yellow or red card throughout the games he played in the tournament.
