Wayne Bridge England kit
Wayne Bridge is a left back who began his youth career at Southampton in 1996 after being spotted by Micky Adams playing for his school team. He was originally used as a striker for his reserve team debut before the club used him as a left winger for the majority of the 1998/99 season. However, injuries saw Bridge moved to left back in 1999/2000 where he made the position his own. The defender's first goal for the club came on the final day of the season where he hit a powerful free kick against Wimbledon to send them tumbling out of the Premier League. He was voted as Southampton's Young Player of the Year in 2000/01 as he became a permenant fixture in the club's Premier League stint. His final appearance for the club was in the 2003 FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal.
Shortly after this, Bridge moved to Stamford Bridge to play for up and coming team Chelsea. He immediately settled in to the Left back spot and capped off a good season with a crucial goal against Arsenal in the Champions League quarter finals to send Chelsea through. The 2004/05 campaign saw much of the same consistency until an injury in the latter stages ruled him out. The purchase of Asier Del Horno saw Bridge lose his place in 2005 and in 2006 he moved on loan to Fulham where he showed some of the form that had earned him a move to Chelsea in the first place.
Whilst Del Horno departed, Ashley Cole moved to Chelsea and immediately secured the left back spot. Despite Bridge adding the 2007 League Cup and 2007 FA Cup to his accolades at Chelsea, he craved first team football and eventually moved to Manchester City in January 2009 for around £14 million. Bridge has since become City's first choice left full back as the team looks to make an impact in the Premier League. The defender's international career has often seen him in the shadow of Ashley Cole despite him winning 34 caps over a period of seven years. He has so far been in the squad for every major tournament that England has qualified for since 2002.
