Jose Bosingwa started his career with Boavista as a youth player in 1996. His senior debut for the club arrived in 2001 and he made 41 appearances for them between 2001/03. Jose Mourinho purchased the player in 2003 and became a part of the FC Porto side that were victorious in the UEFA Champions League that season. This success saw Bosingwa become the team's first choice right back for several seasons ahead. He became a vital element in the Porto's four title victories in five seasons up until 2008.
In the summer of 2008, it was announced that Bosingwa had moved to Chelsea for a fee of just over £16 million on a three year deal. He scored two goals during their first Premier League campaign that inevitably ended in disappointment. His first season with Chelsea did not go without controversy. Following the last minute defeat to Barcelona in the semi finals of the Champions League, Bosingwa was originally banned for three matches after controversial comments on the referee made to Portuguese television.
Bosingwa's international career has been relatively successful to date. His performances at club level saw him overtake Miguel as the first choice right back in 2007. His efforts during the 2008 UEFA European Championships saw him named in the team of the tournament.
