BFC Boavista Football
Boavista Football Club were founded in 1903 and are a sports club in Porto Portugal. Boavista grew to become Porto´s second largest club with sections dedicated to several sports, such as volleyball, chess, gymnastics, bicycle racing along with football. Boavista play their home games at Estadio do Bessa XXI, Rua o Primeiro de Janeiro, 4100 Porto, which was built in 1973 and remodelled in time for Euro 2004.
Boavista who are nicknamed Panteras (Panthers) and Axadrezados (literally chequered), the latter from their trademark of chequered white and black shirts which they wear for home games.
Boavista were commonly known as the club with the strange shirts, and achieved moderate success, knocking out Inter Milan and AS Roma in Europe during the early 90´s. However, Boavista´s claim to fame to date in Europe, was the highlight of the brilliant UEFA Cup run in 2003, when they were knocked out by Celtic FC in the semi-finals in the Estdio do Bessa.
