David Bentley was born in Peterborough, England on the 27th August 1984. Bentley began his career at Arsenal after coming through the youth ranks but found it hard to get first team football under Wenger. He only made nine starts for Arsenal only one of which was in the Premiership. He was then loaned out to Norwich City to gain some first team Premiership experience scoring 2 goals in 26 appearances for the Canaries.
Bentley then went back to Arsenal but was still not in the frame under Wenger who had an abundance of you talent emerging through the ranks at the Gunners. Bentley then went out on loan again this time to Blackburn and spent the first half of the 2005/06 season there until Mark Hughes then made the switch permanent after a string of impressive displays for Blackburn. Bentley then went on to make a great impact at Blackburn scoring 7 goals in 51 appearances that season. He has now settled well at Blackburn scoring important goals and putting in impressive performances, Bentley now must be one of the first names on Mark Hughes team sheet every week.
Bentley.s lowest moment has probably been when he was booed by England fans after coming on as a substitute against Israel. He even got a lot of stick from rival supporters throughout the season but this didn.t faze Bentley at all adding .I see the booing as a nice bit of banter and at least it means the fans aren’t bored. It’s quality. I enjoy it to be honest and I’m getting it even more than Robbie Savage, which is really saying something..
Bentley has overcame these boos and turned them into cheers as he made his first start for England against Switzerland in the friendly at Wembley stadium. With his form being so good at Blackburn he attracted the attention of Capello keeping Wright-Phillips out the team and did not disappoint the Italian turning in an impressive performance and was one of England.s best performers on the night leading most England fans to think Bentley rather than Beckham.
