Franz Beckenbauer Legends kit
Franz Beckenbauer was a German international who played most notably for Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga. He is 1.82 meters tall and is 62 years old, born on the 11th of September 1945. He played as a left winger before making his career as a sweeper (some say he created the position). He is generally regarded as the greatest German footballer of all time and one of the greatest footballers in history of the game. Today he remains an influential figure in German and international football.
Franz began his career in 1964 for Bayern Munich as a left winger, in this season they gained promotion to the 'Top flight' the newly formed Bundesliga and soon became a major force in Germany and Europe winning the german cup (1966/67) and UEFA Cup winners cup(1967). Franz became captain in the 1968/69 season and Munich became more sucessful winning the Bundesliga 3 times in a row (1972-74) and also winning 3 European Cups in a row (1974-76). Franz played 427 games and scored 60 goals for Bayern Munich from 1964-1977. Franz left Munich and accepted a lucrative contract to play in America in 1977 for the New York Cosmos, he played for 4 years and made 105 appearences, scored 19 goals and won 3 league titles before returning to Germany to play for Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga. Beckenbauer won the league title with Hamburger in which he made 28 appearances between 1980-1982 before returning to the Cosmos for one final season(1983) in which he made 27 apperances and scored 2 goals.
Beckenbauer was a star for the West German national team he played 103 games scoring 14 goals. He played in Euro 1972 and 3 world cups 1966, 1970 and 1974 and had success in all 4 competitions, finishing runners up in 1966, 3rd place in 1970 and captaining the side to a world cup victory in 1974 and a Euro victory in 1972 .
One year after retirement (1984) Beckenbauer became coach of West Germany and proved he was as good a coach as he was a player, coaching West Germany to the world cup final (runners up) and coaching a united Germany to a world cup victory in 1990.
Beckenbauer moved into club management after the 1990 world cup with a short stint at Olympique Marseille 1990-1991 before becoming president and manager of his beloved Bayern Munich in 1994 and 1996 winning the Bundesliga in 1994 and the UEFA cup in 1996.
Franz Beckenbauer has been selected twice as European Footballer of the year, finished 2nd in the European Footballer of the Century and 3rd in the world player of the century(conducted by IFFHS).
