Barry Bannan Scotland kit
Young Scottish midfielder Barry Bannan is regarded, by those who know his playing style well, as an outstanding talent. Born 1 December 1989 in Airdrie, Scotland, Bannan suffered many medical problems as a child. He had been hospitalised four times for operations before he had even celebrated his seventh birthday. Showing the tenacity that he does on the pitch for club side Aston Villa, Bannan overcame the set-backs to begin his football career at Lenzie Youth Club.
He then moved to join Celtic and was given the opportunity to move onto their youth set-up. Instead he chose to trial at Aston Villa. During his trial at Villa the youth team competed at the 2008 Ergenzingen Tournament in Germany which they won. Bannan was named player of the tournament and subsequently offered a contract with the English club.
Bannan has remained at Villa ever since. In 2008 he scored 13 goals to help Villa's academy team lift the Premier Academy League title. Signed to a two year contract the midfielder then went out on loan to Derby County, Blackpool and Leeds United to gain more match exposure.
At only 1.70m tall and 60kg Barry makes up for his lack of size with a tremendous passing ability, skill, vision and intelligence. These attributes have seen him draw plaudits from a number of fellow players and managers who say that he has the ability to become one of the greatest midfielders in the world.
Bannan made his senior Scotland debut in a 1-0 win over Lithuania during a Euro 2012 qualifier. He was named man of the match after providing the assist for the only goal of the match.
