Gareth Frank Bale was born in Cardiff on the 16th July 1989, he is a Premier League footballer playing at the London club Tottenham Hotspur and he is also a member of the Welsh International team.
In December 2006 he won the Carwyn James Award for the BBC Wales Young Sports Personality of the Year. This has been followed by being named the Football League Young Player of the Year in 2007. He is said to be one of the most talented young players in Wales' history, with a deadly left foot.
Southampton scouts spotted his talent when a youngster and he went on to train at their academy in Bath. He followed this by making his first team debut when still 16, Theo Walcott is still the only younger player ahead of him in the club. He made 40 appearances for Southampton through to 2007 and following much debate about who would secure his signature in the Premiership, he signed for Tottenham in May 2007.
