Aberdeen Football
Aberdeen Football Club were founded in 1903 (from the merger of Victoria United, Aberdeen and Orion) they play their games at the 22,199 capacity Pittodrie Stadium and compete in the Scottish Premier League. Pittodrie was the first all seater stadium in Scotland and the first sports venue in the world to have a dug-out. They were invented by trainer Donald Coleman in the early 1930s.
Their first match was a 1-1 draw against Stenhousemuir on 15th August 1903, they started wearing an all white kit, but when the entered into the Scottish League in 1904-05 they took on a black and gold strip which got them the nickname the Wasps. Aberdeen's home shirt now is red coupled with red shorts & socks for games at Pittodrie, away from home the team's kit is all white.
Since 1905 Aberdeen have graced the top division of Scottish football, only Celtic & Rangers share that record. Aberdeen's won the Scottish Cup for the first time in 1947 and the Don's had their first Scottish League title in the 1954-55 season. Their most succesful manager was Sir Alex Ferguson who in the 1980's led the Don's to three league championships and an extra time 2-1 1983 Cup Winners' Cup victory over Real Madrid.
