Alemannia Aachen Football
Alemannia Aachen is a German football club, founded on 16th December 1900 by a group of eighteen high school students. Knowing that another team had already taken the name 1. FC Aachen the new club was christened FC Alemannia using the old Latin name for Germany. In early 1919 Alemannia merged with Aachener Turnverein 1847 to become TSV Alemannia Aachen 1900, but the clubs splitted again in 1924.
After the formation of the Bundesliga, Germany's new professional football league, in 1963, Alemannia found themselves in Regionalliga West (II). Until 2006/07 season, when they earned promotion to the Bundesliga, they mostly played in country's second division 2.Bundesliga. Although Kartoffelkäfer (potato beetles), as they are called, were German Cup finalists three times (1953, 1965 and 2004), they are still looking to win their first major trophy.
Alemannia Aachen plays in the Stadion Tivoli which has a capacity of 21,632 spectators. It was built in 1908 and has been renovated several times. Aachen is hoping to build a new stadium in the near future. Home fixtures are played in yellow shirts, black shorts and yellow socks, while away fixtures are played in black/yellow shirts,black shorts and black socks.
